My name is Jacqueline Jones, and I’m a resident of The Wexford in Tsawwassen.I have been here just over 3 years, and I highly recommend it.
How did you come to live at The Wexford?
I was living in White Rock, which I loved. There came a time when the market was really hot, and a gentleman down the hall from me had sold his place for quite a good profit. So, I put it on the market, and I didn’t really mind which way it went. This lady came and saw it, and absolutely fell in love with it.
There are four similar places in White Rock, and I looked at all of them, and I decided on the one I would like, and then I got home, and I thought what in the world am I doing, because I’ll still my family’s all most of them are here.
So I decided, okay, I’ll see what’s available in Tsawwassen. So I phoned and spoke with Andie, and I said, “I’d like to see The Waterford.” And she said, “Oh, I think you should start with The Wexford.” So we started with The Wexford, and that was it.
What is a day like in your life at The Wexford?
Oh, I take my time to get up. But one of the first things I do, I’m very fond of donkeys. And I have two adopted donkeys in a sanctuary in South Devon. And my son set it up for me, and I just go online, and I can see all the donkeys in the different paddocks.
This is Ashley, the white one. He has a glass eye, unfortunately, but he’s doing okay. And then this is his little friend, Zena, the lady. And um there’s nothing romantic between them at all, any of them. This is just they usually have a little chum, you know.
I love challenges like Sudoku and word games, and I play Words With Friends. I’ve got about eight or nine people that I’m constantly, you know, we’re building words and building points. It’s great. Mid-morning, I’ll go down to the bistro and grab a coffee, see who’s around, go and talk to Eva if she’s at the desk or whoever is there, and I know I know them, most of them. I’m a bit of a loner. I do like my own space. To be honest, I don’t like a big crowd of people and noise, and all of that. If it’s an interesting event or something that I would enjoy, then I’ll go down. I’ll make the effort.
What do you appreciate the most about life at The Wexford?
The safety and security is very important. The social connections you make, friends you make. The staff, without question, are amazing. Everybody from management down to the ladies in the dining room, the housekeepers, they really cannot do enough for you or for us. And it certainly helps.
