We all love getting something for free! Here’s our Top 10 list of free services, opportunities and resources available to many BC seniors

1. FREE AUDIO BOOKS, E-BOOKS AND MAGAZINES

All these resources are available online from your local library. Download the Libby app, enter your library card information, and access the library’s digital world through your computer, tablet or smartphone.

2. FREE FERRY SERVICE

Seniors can ride BC Ferries for free Monday-Thursday (except holidays). This discount does not apply to vehicles.

3. DIGITAL LITERACY

Unlock the mysteries of your smartphone and tablet! Gluu Society offers free online classes and printed resources made especially to help seniors boost their digital skills.

4. RENTAL SUBSIDY

If you’re a renter, you could be eligible for the SAFER subsidy, which will reduce your monthly rental rate. SAFER (Shelter Aid for Elder Renters) helps make rent more affordable for BC seniors with moderate or low incomes.

5. MEDICAL EQUIPMENT LOANS

In addition to offering a variety of free resources, Legal Aid BC specializes in providing representation, advice, and information to those with low incomes.

Family Caregivers of BC offers resources, coaching, support groups, and a hotline for caregivers to call when they feel overwhelmed.

9. SENIOR RESOURCE BOOK

Get a free PDF or printed copy of the provincial government’s BC Seniors Guide. This substantial book offers insights on everything from accessing government assistance to participating in the 55+ senior games and more.
