November 17th, 2017 is Change Day in British Columbia. Change Day is a movement designed to drive change and improvement in the healthcare system. It was started in 2013 by the National Health Service in England, and has since spread to countries all over the world. It’s a chance to play an active role in improving patient care in BC by making a pledge to commit to an act of change. It’s a chance to celebrate the power of any person – patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, students, and volunteers – to have a positive impact on the health system in BC.
Bria Communities will be participating in Change Day at The Waterford. Staff are encouraged to make pledges of their own, to commit to playing an active role in creating positive change. We’ve already got some ideas that we’re putting into action for the new year. Here are a couple of examples of how we’re shining a spotlight on how to improve patient care:
- Volunteers can be pushed in a wheelchair by another staff member while wearing earmuffs and goggles to simulate what it’s like to experience tunnel vision.
- Organizing a Virtual Dementia Tour to allow Bria staff to experience what it’s like to live with dementia.
How can you get involved?
Make a pledge of your own and share it! When you share your pledge through the official Change Day BC website, you’ll make sure it gets counted in the official BC pledge count. It’s a great way to let everyone know how you are helping to drive change in healthcare. Need a little inspiration? You can view other pledges to get inspired. Also, stay tuned for updates on events happening at Bria Communities that you can participate in.
Join us in celebrating Change Day BC on November 17th. We can’t wait to see your pledges! Together we can improve patient care in BC.
