Easter Activities for Seniors and Grandchildren to Enjoy

spending time with seniors over easter holiday

Easter has become a celebration of the start of spring for many families. While it is still a religious holiday for many, it has become a fun and inclusive celebration for everyone. When we think of Easter, we think of bright colours, sweet treats, and time spent with loved ones. If you are celebrating with a senior, here are a few great ways to get the whole family involved.

Easter Activities for Seniors

Decorate eggs

This classic Easter tradition is perfect for kids and adults of all ages! It’s a great way to let everyone exercise their creative side. You can keep it traditional and decorate real hard boiled eggs with dyes or food colouring. You can also use markers, paint, or crayons to create gorgeous colourful eggs to be placed in cute baskets or bowls.

If you don’t want to use real eggs, you can get super crafty and make eggs out of papier-mâché and use paint to decorate them. This method is extra fun since you can also put some treats inside the eggs to break open once they’re done.

Make a centrepiece

If your Easter plans include a family lunch or dinner, gather everyone together to create cute, festive decorations. Have everyone decorate a few small baskets and fill them with colourful Easter grass, dyed eggs, and cute little trinkets. Or, keep things simple and create some bright flower arrangements to decorate the table.

Organize an egg hunt

We all remember how fun it was to run around the yard or the house on a search for Easter treats. Who says you can’t still have fun doing it? Get seniors involved by having them hide treats around for the kids to find. They’ll love to scope out the best hiding spots and then sit back and watch as the kids excitedly look for treasure. Or, you can do the hiding and get the kids and grandparents to search together.

Do some gardening

Since we’re celebrating spring, planting some flowers is a great way to spend time together on Easter. If they have an outdoor space, bring some flowers over as a gift and then head outside to plant them together. For those without outdoor gardens, why not build a cute container garden for them to enjoy indoors? There are plenty of plants and flowers that are great to grow inside, and they’re usually pretty easy to take care of too.

Organize a mini Easter parade

Easter parades are a fun tradition in many communities, in which everyone gets a chance to put on their best fancy outfit and hat and head out to show them off. If your community doesn’t have an Easter parade of its own, why not create your own? Gather everyone in the family and have them decorate a fun Easter bonnet or hat of their very own. When everyone is ready, put on your hats and head out for a stroll in the neighbourhood, around the yard, or just around the house!
