4 Ways for Seniors to Stay Active Indoors

Senior Exercising at Home

So you found yourself home-bound for a few days. That’s okay; life doesn’t have to come to a standstill. Staying active is important for your mental and physical well-being, and even while at home, it is a simple and accessible addition to your daily routine. Here are four ways to keep active indoors.

1. DO LAPS AROUND YOUR SUITE

No matter how much space you have in your suite, you can use it to your advantage. Walking laps around a room, or from one room to another, is simple and will keep you up and moving in a healthy way.

2. STRETCHING

Stretching can be done anywhere and with little to no equipment. Exercises range from stretching your arms and legs to your neck and shoulders. Check with your physician before engaging in exercises to ensure your safety.

3. DO YOGA FROM YOUR CHAIR

From the comfort of a chair, you can reap the benefits of yoga. Benefits include increased flexibility, relief for body aches and stiffness, and a happier, calmer mental state. Check online for specific exercises and incorporate yoga into your exercise regime.

4. CONTINUE EXERCISES YOU LEARNED IN CLASS

If you’ve taken part in exercise classes offered at a gym or in your residence community, why not continue in your suite? Ensure you are safe and have the proper equipment (if any), and make this a part of your daily routine.

While staying indoors presents its own set of unique challenges, staying active is one that can be met with a few simple innovations and creativity. Make exercising a part of your daily routine and during these uncertain times, let it be both a comfort and an inspiration to how you live every day.
