Mother’s Day is a special time to celebrate our moms and all the motherly figures in our lives. After all, they’re pretty important to us – we wouldn’t be here without them! This year, while everyone else lines up to get a table at a restaurant for the traditional Mother’s Day brunch, why not treat your mom to something a little different?
Mother’s Day Activity Ideas for Seniors
Take in a movie matinee
There’s nothing quite like an afternoon at the movies! Treat your mom to a day out to see a new movie she’s excited about or a showing of an old favourite. Or if it’s more comfortable, you can recreate the theatre experience at home, complete with movie snacks and her favourite film.
Organize a shopping trip
Shopping is a great way to spend time together. Before you head out, ask her what she needs or would like to look at while you’re out. That way you can better plan your route through the mall or around your shopping area. Not only is shopping fun, but it’s also a great way to get some extra exercise for the day!
Prepare a meal together
This is a thoughtful way to spend time together while also skipping the brunch crowds at restaurants. Prepare her favourite meal, or get her to walk you through an old family recipe. Of course, if she would rather have the day off from cooking, you can get to work in the kitchen while she relaxes! Even if you’re not much of a cook, you can always keep things simple and put together a picnic-style lunch to enjoy outside.
Afternoon tea
Is there anything fancier than an afternoon tea celebration? Get the whole family together to recreate a classic afternoon tea spread. Go the classic route with finger sandwiches, cookies, and small pastries, or get creative and go with a spread of all her favorite treats. Serve it up with her favorite tea, either hot or cold. Make this event even more special by getting everyone to dress up for the occasion!
A day at the spa
If you really want to show your mom just how much you appreciate her, a little pampering goes a long way! Treat her to a day at the spa with the treatment of her choice. This could be a manicure, pedicure, facial, or even a gentle massage. Of course, you can also bring the spa to her with some in-home treatments done by you or a mobile service that comes to you.
Plan a day around her hobbies
Mother’s Day is all about her, so why not spend the day doing her very favourite activities? Think about her hobbies and what she’s into. If she’s an art lover, a trip to a local museum is a wonderful way to spend the day together. If she’s into crafts, find an art class to take together at a local studio or community centre. If she loves to cook, you could sign up for a Mother’s Day cooking class. Or, if she’s into sports, take in a game together! It could even be as simple as spending some time playing her favourite card games together.
Listen to some music
If your mom loves music, find a way to incorporate it into your special day together. If there’s a local performance she might enjoy, plan an outing around the concert. Or, keep it simple and sweet by making a custom playlist of all her favorite songs and listening to it together. Then, you can give her a copy as a gift so she can listen to it whenever she wants.
