Senior-Friendly Family Day Activities

Family day in BC creates a terrific opportunity for an adventure with loved ones of all ages. Vancouver and the surrounding cities offer many senior-friendly activities that are fun for the whole family and will leave you with lasting memories.

We recommend these spots that are senior-friendly and fun for the whole family:

Bloedel Conservatory Botanical Garden – Enjoy a trip to the jungle! This lush tropical paradise under a dome features hundreds of fascinating plants and more than 100 colourful birds.

Granville Island Market – Browse the unique stalls and stores and dine on something delicious from the food court with a great view of False Creek. There’s a good chance you’ll enjoy free music from local buskers, and don’t forget to visit the hat store to try on some of their entertaining styles.

Steveston Village – If you’re a fan of the west coast, you love everything Steveston has to offer. Visit the Gulf of Georgia Cannery fishing museum, and the Britannia Shipyards Historic site with its waterfront boardwalk. Eat your fish and chips in the open air and walk along the water at Garry Point Park.

Greater Vancouver Zoo – Enjoy a stroll or roll through the animal exhibits and get up close and personal with the giraffes, hippos, lions and bears (oh my!)

Fly Over Canada – When was the last time you saw Niagara Falls from the air? Since it’s located at Canada Place you can pack a lot into your visit by also visiting the free Port of Vancouver Museum.

Wherever you go, check your destination ahead of time to ensure it’s senior-friendly by considering these qualifications:

  • Opportunities to sit down amidst the fun
  • Parking or drop-off options that will limit the amount of unnecessary walking
  • Accessibility for those with mobility challenges. Smooth pathways, elevators and ramps are helpful.
  • Lots of fun. Skip activities that are boring—life is too short!
