Sunridge Gardens Attains its Targeted ‘LEED Gold’ Certification

sustainability

Sunridge Gardens, our Bria community in Murrayville, Langley, attained its targeted ‘LEED Gold’ certification from the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) this fall of 2013. This achievement gives Sunridge Gardens, Bria Communities and Century Group a great opportunity to celebrate our leadership in building better buildings for all our residents and staff.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a rating system that provides independent, third party verification that a building, home or community is designed and built to be more responsive to the environment, consume less energy and increase comfort and health.

Highlights of the Sunridge Gardens LEED for New Construction Gold certification include:

  • 62% reduction in energy cost, with 20% of regulated energy use provided through renewable energy systems
  • 35% reduction in water use, and a reduction in storm water run off by 72%
  • 30% of construction materials locally manufactured, with 11% containing recycled content

There are very few companies committed to the expense and time required to go through the LEED process, and fewer still to a Gold standard. Century Group worked with a number of key partners to ensure that Sunridge Gardens is a model for liveable seniors’ living communities — many thanks to the Township of Langley, BC Hydro’s Power Smart program, Renew Energy solar, and Light House Sustainable Building Centre for their invaluable contributions to our success.
