The Waterford Celebrates their 10th Anniversary!

Monday, 23 September marked the first day of the week-long 10 Year Anniversary Celebration at The Waterford. The week was full of special activities, meals and events for the residents and their families to enjoy. Since the theme of the celebration was The Great Gatsby, they decided, what better way to start off the week than to show the movie! On Tuesday, they played croquet in the lounge downstairs and then enjoyed music by ‘The Tunemakers’ and a lovely dinner with a dessert buffet to follow!

On Wednesday they showed a wonderful slideshow with pictures of residents participating in different activities and socials over the years. In the afternoon they held a tea party on the Care floor with a harpist playing soft music in the background and a beautiful dessert buffet put together by the kitchen staff. Meanwhile, down on the Independent floor they held a ‘Who done it? Murder Mystery’ activity , which the residents really enjoyed.

Thursday began with the Annual General Meeting where the new Resident Council was elected. Later that evening the dining room was transformed back to the ‘roaring 20’s’ with black linens, embossed table runners, gold chargers, and extravagant black and white feather centerpieces. Residents came down for dinner dressed in their formal attire and the management and recreation staff were dressed in 1920’s costumes, complete with feather headpieces and lots of fringe! They also had a photo booth set up with props for the residents and staff to have their pictures taken. After dinner residents made their way to the lounge, which had also been transformed with dramatic and sparkly decor, for music and dancing.

On Friday there was a celebration in the afternoon to recognize long term residents and staff, with special guests Mayor Lois Jackson and President of Century Group Sean Hodgins. After speeches, residents and guests enjoyed cake and champagne before transitioning into their regular social hour with a 1920’s themed performance. Ironically the performers, Colleen and Steve Durdan, were some of the first performers that The Waterford invited 10 years ago when the building first opened, so it was very special that they were able to come for this celebration 10 years later!

On Saturday, the week-long celebration came to a close with a Public Open House, giving the community a chance to come and learn more about all that The Waterford has to offer. The open house, featuring guided tours as well as entertainment, was a huge success with over 100 guests attending! This was also a great opportunity for residents of South Delta to learn more about Century Group’s upcoming Norgate project, which is a mixed-use development that will include a fourth Bria Community with 60 suites.

Overall, everyone had a fantastic time celebrating the last ten years at The Waterford and we’re all looking forward to the next ten!
