What Residents Say: Joan’s Story

Sunridge Gardens resident Joan

My name is Joan, and I’ve been here at Sunridge Gardens for exactly three years. And I love it here.

I’m a singer I’ve been in many choirs, and this was before Covid; we used to come to visit all the retirement homes and perform. And I happened to see this one which I really liked because of how large it is. Everybody’s friendly, and we have a fantastic courtyard which is beautiful, and that kind of enticed me to come here and stay.

I’m 91 years of age I love to dance. I still go to my choir. I try to keep as active as I can, and you can keep active here there’s so much going on. We play cards we have wonderful performers on Fridays. We have this game called horse racing, it’s absolutely fabulous; I love it.

The food is fabulous. We have two choices at lunch and dinner. The morning’s a smorgasbord; if you want to come down, you can. If you don’t, you don’t have to. Wonderful desserts. When I was on my own I didn’t eat that many desserts, but I’m eating them here. They’re lovely.

The staff is great, they’re really very attentive and polite and treat you very well. It’s very interesting to meet other people that you don’t know and to find out about their lives and your life, and it’s very, very nice. It’s very peaceful. You know we have a beautiful, like I said, courtyard with a waterfall which is very different. It’s not just a regular waterfall, it’s urns. The water comes out of the top of the urn and then just floats down. In the evening, it’s all lit up. It’s beautiful.

We have lots of tables and umbrellas. There’s always entertainment. Meals outside in the summertime, our entertainment is outside in the summertime. It’s just that absolutely wonderful. We have cocktails, which everybody loves, and they’re very inexpensive.

I would recommend this place to anybody ’cause if I wasn’t happy here, you’d know it. And I do love it here, I really do.
