5,665 raised for the Alzheimer Society of B.C.!
Every bite helps in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease!
Thanks to the incredible appetite and generosity of our residents, families, and South Delta neighbours, The Wexford’s Street Food Festival raised $5,665 to support the Alzheimer Society of B.C.!
Every single bao bun, tikka masala chicken skewer, and raffle ticket added up to make a meaningful difference in fighting a disease that takes so much from so many.
“Most of us have experienced the long loss of friends and family members who have lived with Alzheimer’s disease,” reflects General Manager, Matthew Baryluk. “It’s something that everyone who works and lives in The Wexford has come face to face with. But when we do an event like this we feel like we’re part of change. We get to show case the abilities of our Chef and culinary team and be part of research and education and supporting families of those living with Alzheimer’s.”
The Crowd Favourites & Friendly Rivalries
Chef James and The Wexford culinary team pulled out all the stops, but two delicious dishes stole the spotlight:
The Blueberry & Lemon Vanilla Ice Cream Cone was the most popular! Showcasing peak-season blueberries from Emma Lea Farms, were slow-cooked into a jammy mix inspired by traditional Algonquin Pashiminan and poured over refreshing vanilla ice cream in a waffle cone and topped with white chocolate shards.
Runner up was the street food classic, the Korean BBQ Beef Bao Bun. Tender, sweet-and-savory bulgogi beef with quick pickled veggies tucked into cloud-like steamed bao buns. Mouth watering!
Long-Term Impact
The Wexford has been hosting food-related fundraising events for the Alzheimer’s Society of BC since 2017, the year after it opened. “We’ve raised more than $36,000 to date,” says Baryluk, “Next year we’re going to cross the $40K mark. And who knows, maybe maybe we’ll just serve ice cream and we’ll pass the $50K mark!”
