The Dinner en Blanc tradition started in Paris in 1988 when a French gentleman invited his friends to join him for an elegant outdoor meal in Bois de Boulogne. He requested that guests wear white, to help them identify each other.
Last night The Waterford hosted their second annual Dinner en Blanc, and residents gamely wore their whites to enjoy a delicious meal followed by a fantastic musical tribute to Connie Francis, Roy Orbison, and Elvis.
Guest dined banquet-style in a room that had been elegantly transformed by the Recreation staff team with golden chargers and sparkling white-light trees. Many ladies wore custom-made fascinators that they crafted earlier in the week.
The Waterford kitchen served residents their choice of mouth-watering fresh halibut prepared in a passionfruit beurre blanc, or flaky beef wellington in a grainy mustard sauce. To the delight of all the diners, Chef Rodrigo paired a J Lohr Chardonnay with the meal. The event was topped with a dessert of house-made churros in sticky toffee banana sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
It was a white night to remember.
