Chinese New Year celebrations 2014

The Waterford Care Center has traditionally ordered in a meal from our favorite local Chinese Food restaurant, Ocean Palace, to have a special dining experience for Chinese New Year. This year lots of our residents took part,  as we transformed our sitting room into a Chinese restaurant with Lanterns and tables for 22 people!

The delivery was for 5:00 pm. It was on time, with waaay more food than we needed (as usual).  We ordered all the favorites; deep fried prawns, chow main noodles, chop suey, lemon chicken, and egg foo young! We even ordered extra fortune cookies.  There were no brave people who used the chop sticks but they all ate well and enjoyed the meal with coffee, tea and dessert from our kitchen.

We had background music from China with a CD of traditional music and it was nice to change up the seating arrangements and have new people sitting together to chat and mingle.  I read out some interesting facts about the “Year of the Horse” and how it is a good year for love and marriage.

Then we had a few laughs over the fortunes in the cookies. Some time ago a resident suggested we read the fortune and then either add “between the sheets” or “in bed” to the end of the fortune for some comic relief – it didn’t disappoint this year!  We read a few aloud and had a good laugh.  Try it when you get out for your next Chinese food meal!
