The Waterford’s Care Center starts off 2014 with a bang!

Welcome to 2014 at The Waterford care floor so far; we’ve been busy so far this year, and it’s only the beginning of February!

We started the year off with a bang, ringing in the New Year with a big party. The residents got into the festivities by helping to decorate.  Paddy Edwards, our evening entertainer, came in and performed lots of fun Irish pub songs and other old time favorites such as Molly Malone and My Girl Rosie. Everyone had a lot of fun singing and clapping along.

Since ringing in the New Year, we’ve also been out on a bus trip to the Country Meadows Restaurant in Richmond for lunch.  It is a favorite restaurant for a lot of our residents because of the food, service and the wonderful view out the large windows. (The wine is pretty good too.) We also got lucky, since the day of our excursion ended up being a beautiful sunny day.

Our bowling team is growing as well, and now has about 12 members.  Sometimes we can get pretty loud cheering each other on. “You were robbed!” – A favorite saying when a pin wobbles but refuses to go down.

Bocce Ball is another popular game with our residents – and we’re very competitive.  One of the reasons for the increased need to win might be because the winners of this game get a prize, chocolate!  The game is so popular, we’ve been meaning to purchase a second set so that we have enough balls to go around.  Team work is very important with this game and a lot of advice (wanted or not) is given.  But overall, everyone has a great time.

On January 24th we celebrated Robbie Burns.  We were joined by a group of local Highland Dancers, who we’ve had come before for performances, and once again they did a fabulous job.And this is ONLY January!!
