Elvis is back in the building at Town + Field Church for a free Gospel & More concert just for seniors. On March 2, Tribute artist Steve Elliott will sing hits from The King’s southern gospel songbook, as well as some Top 40 treats. This free event is open to people 65+ and is sponsored by two Langley senior living residences: Magnolia Gardens and Sunridge Gardens.
Last year more than 300 seniors came out of post-Covid precautions to enjoy the show, and it was moving for everyone, “Restrictions were just starting to end,” recalls Steve. “We hadn’t had the chance to gather together for an event like that in a long time, so it really was inspirational. Everyone needed to hear songs of hope.”
Elvis’ gospel songs have always been among his most popular; Steve suspects it was because they came from his heart, “He always resorted to gospel songs, even in the 1970s when he was struggling,” he notes. “There’s a reverence in those songs because there’s conviction behind them.”
This year the show will feature more than just classic hymns and spiritual songs, and Steve is ready to rock some of Elvis’ biggest hits. There’ll be something for everyone; love ballads, some of the uptempo songs like Don’t Be Cruel or All Shook Up.
“We expect a full house again this year,” says Sherri Martin, Residency Coordinator for Sunridge Gardens & Magnolia Gardens, “We had such a fun time last year and the news has travelled; I suspect we’ll sell out early this year. The tickets are a steal of a deal!”
Sherri notes that the concert is free for seniors, but tickets must be reserved ahead of time by calling Sunridge Gardens at 604.510.5091. While the concert is open to seniors 65+, exceptions will be made for caregivers and support staff.
The concert is on Thursday, March 2 at Town + Field Church (2-719 48 Ave. Langley, BC.). Doors open at 1 pm and the show takes place from 2-3 pm. For more information visit BriaCommunities.ca/gospel or call 604.510.5091.
