What Life is Really Like in Bria Communities | Frequently Asked Questions

We believe that senior living should feel worry-free and tailored to you. Whether you are exploring options for yourself or a loved one, navigating retirement communities comes with plenty of questions.

Here are the answers to the top 10 questions Bria Communities receive most often across our locations.

1. Is there a waitlist at Bria Communities residences, and how long is it?

Yes, each Bria Communities residence maintains a waitlist, and suite availability varies at each community. Joining the waitlist is completely free.

If you have a specific suite type, floor, or view in mind, placing your name on our waitlist ensures you will be contacted when a matching suite opens up.

  • How it works: When a suite becomes available, our Residency Coordinators call through the waitlist to offer the suite to those highest on the list. If you refuse the suite, your name stays on the list and we call you again next time.
  • Wait times: Because suite availability varies by location and resident turnover, there is no fixed timeline for the waitlist. We recommend placing your name on the list early—even if you aren’t quite ready to move today. Contact our Residency Coordinators in Tsawwassen and Langley for more insight into the waitlist at your preferred community.

2. Do you offer Long-Term Care (LTC), and can residents transition smoothly?

Yes. Bria Communities offers priority access to private Long-Term Care for our residents.

While our main residences focus on Independent Living and Supportive Living, we provide a seamless continuum for those seeking long-term care. If their health needs change, Bria residents receive priority placement at our dedicated Bria Care Centres:

This guarantees peace of mind knowing that higher levels of professional care are available within the familiar Bria family.

3. What does “Independent Living” mean at Bria Communities?

Independent Living at Bria Communities combines private, independent apartment living with all-inclusive hospitality—much like living on a boutique cruise ship.

You maintain full control over your day-to-day life and personal schedule while we take care of the everyday chores.

What’s Included:

  • Chef-prepared daily meals and dining options
  • Weekly housekeeping and linen services
  • Full slate of lifestyle, social, and wellness programming
  • Scheduled community transportation and shuttle services
  • 24/7 building security and safety features

Note: Independent Living residents are responsible for their own personal and medical care. Team members at our Independent Living communities do not provide hands-on care such as dressing, showering, or medication administration.

4. Do you cater to specialty diets and medical dietary needs?

Yes. Our culinary teams accommodate a wide variety of dietary preferences, choices, and medical requirements.

Whether you follow a low-sodium, gluten-free, diabetic, or vegetarian diet, our Red Seal chefs work directly with you to craft a personalized dining plan that meets your nutritional needs without sacrificing flavour.

5. What kinds of activities and entertainment do you offer?

We offer vibrant, structured activities seven days a week organized around the Seven Dimensions of Wellness.

Our Lifestyle & Wellness teams curate a fresh monthly calendar covering physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual, environmental, and vocational wellness.

Popular Activities Include:

  • Functional Fitness classes, chair yoga, and walking clubs
  • Live music performances and guest lectures
  • Creative arts, crafts, and hobby workshops
  • Games, cards, and competitions
  • Group outings, shopping excursions, and social happy hours
  • Resident-led clubs: If you have a passion you want to share, our staff will help you launch your own club!

6. Are meals mandatory, or can I choose to cook my own meals?

All meals are included in your monthly Residency Rate.

Our dining experience is a core part of the all-inclusive lifestyle. While every suite includes kitchenette facilities for preparing snacks or light meals whenever you like, opting out of the main dining room does not reduce your monthly rate. Most residents find the dining room to be one of the best spots to socialize with neighbours!

7. What transportation options are available for residents?

Bria Communities provides complete, hassle-free transportation options for both local errands and group travel.

  • Courtesy Shuttles: Available for individual personal trips, such as local medical appointments. Each residence has a schedule for days and times the courtesy shuttle runs. Check with the Residency Coordinator for more information.
  • 18-Passenger Buses: Used for community group outings, including trips to local shopping malls, sight-seeing tours, regional events, and overnight excursions.

8. Can I request extra housekeeping or laundry services?

Yes. Additional housekeeping services can easily be added to your account for a modest fee.

Your standard weekly housekeeping and flat-linen service are included in your monthly rate. If you ever want deep cleaning, personal laundry assistance, or additional visits, our hospitality team is happy to accommodate your requests.

9. Who has access to my private suite?

Your privacy, security, and personal dignity are our top priorities. Suite access is strictly controlled:

  • Housekeeping: Our team members only enter your suite during pre-arranged housekeeping times.
  • Maintenance & General Managers: Managers and Technical Maintenance staff hold master keys, but enter suites only during emergencies or for pre-scheduled, requested repairs.

10. What happens if my care needs increase while living at Bria?

If you need extra personal or medical assistance, you can bring private home care services directly into your Bria suite.

Because Bria Independent Living communities do not employ medical staff to provide physical assistance, residents who require extra support have full flexibility:

  • Private Support: You may hire private home care agencies or personal support workers to assist you in your suite.
  • Public Health: Support services through health authorities (such as Fraser Health) are fully welcome in our buildings.
  • Bria Care Centres: If long-term professional nursing care becomes necessary, you receive priority access to our private Care Centres in Tsawwassen and Langley.

Note: Bria Communities has a third-party code of conduct that external care providers must comply with to work in our residences.
