What Resident’s Say: Linda’s Story

Photo of Linda Lee, Magnolia Gardens Resident

My name is Linda Lee, and I’ve been at Magnolia Garden..it’ll be a year on March the 26th. Actually, I came here from an independent living residence in Victoria. Decided to come back because I had lived on the mainland for 45 years. I like Victoria, but I wanted to be back. And I liked Magnolia Gardens the very first time I saw it. I felt comfortable and that I already knew people…kind of that sense when I came in. It was amazing. Yeah, it was a very good decision for me.

I’m not a huge joiner of all the things. But  I love the happy hours. I keep telling my friends in Victoria there’s not one, there’s two a week!

I love that there’s live music on those days. And I enjoy the bus trips. I enjoy having the little Bria van available when I need to go to an appointment or whatever. There’s so many things.

And I like the food. I have to make some adjustments because of my dietary stuff, but it works out it’s just fine. And, you know, I can call down in the morning and say, ‘There’s a cheese and onion grilled sandwich on the menu. Can you make me one without onions?’ And they do. So that worked out really well. Yeah, and the desserts, by the way, are wonderful.

I walk as much as I can, not as much as I ought to, but never mind. And it’s very easy. You know there are cafes, restaurants and things. And I can walk to Save On Foods, I can walk to Safeway. So it’s really worked out very well for me.

I would recommend Magnolia Gardens. And the reasons are that the staff are helpful and friendly. I like my suite, I like the building itself, I like where it is, and I like the people, the residents. Eventually, you get to know them all, at least by name, if not closely, and it’s a nice feeling to be able to go down to the dining room and say, ‘Hi good morning,” or whatever. Yeah, it’s nice I like it very much, and I would certainly recommend it.
