Retirement living is about more than just fluffy slippers, afternoon naps, and an endless supply of Werther’s Originals! We’ve collected the most common myths and misunderstandings we hear about retirement living, and we’re going to bust through.

SNOOZE-FEST

MYTH: “Retirement living is for old people.”
REALITY: Age is just a number when it comes to having a good time! Retirement communities are buzzing with bocce tournaments, poker games and wine tastings that put sommeliers to shame. Spoiler alert: bingo and shuffleboard are VERY competitive.

STUCK IN PLACE

MYTH: “Once I’m in, I’ll never be able to leave.”
REALITY: Retirement living doesn’t take away your independence; it gives you more! Come and go as you please with the peace of mind that someone is there to look after the place. And whether you’re away for the day or a month, you’ve got a community full of friends who will be glad to have you back.

BLAH AND BLAND

MYTH: “They’ll feed me rubber chicken and bland vegetables.”
REALITY: Fine dining is on the menu at most retirement communities. The cuisine is more like a cruise ship than a hospital. Choose where you’ll eat, when, and what you’ll eat and plan to add a few extra holes to your belt loop.

CHOICE CATASTROPHE

MYTH: “I’ll lose my ability to make my own choices.”
REALITY: Retirement communities offer a smorgasbord of ways to spend your day. Join a paint-pouring class, spend the day shopping, get lost in a book, or make yourself pancakes for dinner. With personal preferences at centre stage, you can live life to the fullest and laugh at the notion of boredom.

QUALITY CONTROL

MYTH: “The quality of my life will decrease.”
REALITY: Raise your expectations! When you get involved in life in a seniors living community, you can expect to feel healthier, make friends, go on adventures and laugh more. Retirement communities offer an opportunity to embrace newfound freedom, explore new passions, and make these the best years of your life.

Say goodbye to sad stereotypes! Retirement living is a vibrant tapestry of incredible individuals breaking free from societal expectations and embracing life to the fullest.
