When Mayor Lois Jackson gave her introductory remarks at the Grand Opening for The Wexford in Tsawwassen this Summer, she acknowledged our beautiful new seniors’ residence as “a welcome addition to the vibrant community of South Delta.”
She said in her speech that “Delta is fortunate to have new, forward thinking developments such as the Wexford, which help meet the housing needs of our seniors population.”
She added that The Wexford will “help ensure Delta’s aging population are able to remain in the community they call home.”
It’s no secret that Delta, Richmond and South Surrey/White Rock have a significant and active seniors population, whose contributions to the community are not only endless, but also deeply valued.
“That’s why it’s so important to recognize the value of creating housing opportunities to accommodate seniors’ needs,” Mayor Jackson explained.
Our Grand Opening event on June 3 was very well-attended, and we took the opportunity to celebrate the families and residents from both The Waterford, at Tsawwassen town centre, and The Wexford, at Northgate.
Chef Matt Jackson designed an amazing selection of hors d’ œuvres and side dishes for this special event, from which he still draws inspiration for The Wexford’s culinary program for its residents. Unique to The Wexford, Chef Matt is piloting an open dining concept that provides our residents with flexible seatings and non-standard meal times.
“We’ve discovered that our residents are out and about so often,” says Matt, “that they really appreciate having meal options that suit their schedules and whims.”
Further, Matt plans to release a ‘Bria Cuisine’ program in early 2017, designed around our Red Seal chef offering, leveraging foodie culture, locally-sourced produce and special gourmet menus.
The program will seek accreditation by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia, through HealthLink BC. Manager Rosanne Philbrook wholeheartedly supports the program.
“We are here for our residents, not the other way around. Bria’s commitment is to improve seniors’ wellness and to give them the best lifestyle conditions we can. Matt’s dining program is fully aligned with this commitment.”
The Wexford has a range of on-site services and recreational programs that encourage active social and intellectual connections for seniors.
These amenities, along with The Wexford’s proximity to transit and the South Delta Recreation Centre, all help to support seniors’ wellness and achieve a higher quality of life.
