Recently 12 of our residents at The Waterford graciously volunteered to help make sandwiches for Food on the Corner, which is an organization that has been serving food to people who live in Vancouver’s Downtown East-side for over 30 years. Every Saturday they serve homemade soup, sandwiches, coffee and sweets to people in need and recently it was one of our Bria Communities who sponsored this meal.
Residents along with staff members stepped up and prepared a whopping 300 sandwiches, which were then delivered downtown by the Food on the Corner Society. All of our Bria Communities do a lot for the communities in which they operate in terms of fundraising but it’s especially nice when we’re able to do something more personal such as making a meal for those in need. It seems residents quite enjoy doing this and gives them a sense of purpose so staff never have trouble finding enough helpers.
The Waterford has been involved with Food on the Corner since July, and in addition to sponsoring complete meals, the staff and residents have also stepped up to do extra food preparation upon the organization’s request when they were in need.
